HI, MY NAME IS VIOLET.

I started this blog today to remind myself that healing and knowledge is a journey. A journey in which we all must enter for self growth. My birth name is Juanita Luna, I inherited the name Wild Violet from the universe. Also I had a wild mane of Purple hair at a time in my life when I became very Spiritual. I like to say that it’s similar to the Indians who identified with mother nature as a means of naming one another. This lifestyle blog will be dedicated to Health, wellness, reviews, events and tips that I’ve learned along the way. So with that being said welcome to my blog! Subscribe below to get updates on my posts xoxo Violet.

How To Cut Calories Without Staring

food, health, WEIGHT LOSS

Have you wanted to cut calories but are worried about feeling hungry all the time? I have been there, trust me it does sound daunting, but it doesn’t have to be. First lets take a look at how many calories you should be consuming daily. To find this number you will need to find a TDEE ( Total Daily Energy Expenditure) calculator online I recommend this one, Click here. Plug in all your information and it will show you your Maintenance calories. This means if you lay in bed all day your body burns x amount of calories. Theoretically if you eat above your maintenance calories you will gain weight, this is called “bulking”. Opposite of that you have “Cutting”, this is where you go for losing weight. Now you are probably here to find out about how to cut calories am I right? Now that we have a general understanding let’s get into it.

We don’t have to starve while maintaining a calorie deficient. I suggest being prepared in the beginning, with meal planning. This helps when you want to grab and go! Spread your meals and snacks out throughout the day.

I like to eat every two hours this makes it simple to stay on track and know when to eat, also I am never hungry because I’m always eating! The only thing I find tricky is just staying in your set amount of calories. This is a little difficult at first, but through time and planning it gets easier. Low calorie foods/snacks/replacements made life a lot better!

Low calorie ice cream has been a lifesaver especially on days when aunt flow is in town! This is when I crave the most junk out of nowhere and any bag of chips or chocolate is in serious trouble. There are endless options at the store. Thankfully in this time and age its more mainstream to find low cal ice cream and snacks. Now not all are created equally and should be consumed in moderation.

Check your labels and don’t go OVERBOARD on them! I know its easy! Focus on nutrition and let the treats be just that a treat, not all day, maybe one a day and slowly progress to one a week. The key is to not be dependent of the treat to get you through to the next day or meal.

Some people state if they stay in their caloric deficit they can eat essentially anything. I try no to do this simply because I know myself, I can not just eat a few chips and stop. But the beauty of it is there is a sense of flexibility. I go the nutrition route, foods high in nutrition not just empty calories. I want to fuel my body with good quality ingredients, So i can feel my best.

I hope this blog has helped you find some tips for calorie counting! Find your own method and stick to it!

The Nourished Gluten Free Festival: My Experience!

Family, food, health, lifestyle

I had the best time attending the festival! I was unable to attend the blogger meet and greet Saturday due to conflicting work schedules, but non the less I had a great time. My mother and son joined me on an epic day of gluten free adventures. There were so many vendors to visit with and many more free samples! I was surprised at how many samples aka “new things” my son tried and loved! I have a decent sized shopping list full of goodies to add to our house.

Goodie bags at entrance

As soon as you walk in you are greeted by the nicest staff and volunteers. You receive an enjoy life bag with a loaf of gluten free bread by the brand Little Northern Bakehouse and peanut free WowButter. Trust me you need that bag for all the awesome treats you will be picking up on your way around. The vendors were super knowledgeable about their products! Some of my favorites were:

Aleia’s A women owned company with delicious cookies and stuffing mixes!

Enjoy Life Tons of great tasting GF snacks!

Cannabee’s CBD infused Honey!

Messy Monkey’s Perfect on the go snacks for kids and kids at heart!

Brazi Bites Fluffy bread bites sweet and savory flavors!

Milton’s Craft Bakers Kid approved cracker snacks!

Forno De Minas ~ Pao de Quijo Cheese bread bites, so so good!

Sauce Goddess Amazing flavorful sauces, seasonings and dips!

Namaste Foods Cake mixes and so much more!

And so many more wonder products we tried at the festival! Mentioned above are the ones that stuck out and left our taste buds begging for more! I would highly recommend attending next year if you missed this year because I am so ready for the next festival!

The kids had a great time playing in the kids zone area located in the far left hand side of the building. We also stopped for a photo op, Kids and Adults! It just so happen that Sunday was my Mother’s birthday so she came with us to enjoy the event. She absolutely LOVED all of the vendors and atmosphere! She wants to come back with us next year as well.

Let’s talk about CARBS, baby!

food, health

Bread, Pastas, cakes and cookies. Do these words make you feel a certain way? I love carbs, they give me that boost of energy I need to tear up a workout in the gym or just fuel me for the day. They also aid in muscle recovery! Remember this the next time you are reaching for a post work out snack! Now its important to know the two types of carbohydrates…

Simple and complex. Simple carbs are fruits, white breads, carbs that digest quickly. They provide you with a fast boost of energy. Complex carbs are slow releasing and a little more dense. Brown rice, sprouted breads, etc. So understanding which carbs to fuel your body with is important.

Let’s break it down

So we now know that there are two types of Carbs, now what? How do I piece this information together? It’s pretty easy! I tend to stick to simple carbs more so during the morning. A big bowl of fruits to jump start my morning, along with some sprouted toast. There we have complex and simple carbohydrates all in one meal. My weakness, chips, would be considered a simple carbohydrate, because it breaks down quick and gives you that jolt.

In my opinion all carbs are good, there are just some that need to be in moderation, those which lack nutritional value. If a bag of Cheetos is what your grabbing instead of fruit or a healthier choice then that is your area that needs work. Like I said chips are my vise! I will choose a bag of chips all day, every day but I know that my body is not receiving little if any nutrition from the ingredients, its all flavor. I hope this quick blog about carbs has helped you get a better understanding of how and when to choose the best carbohydrates.

Motivation and How to keep it

Mental health

This week has been a little off for me due to the holiday (Labor day weekend). I feel so behind and unmotivated these days. Dishes are piling up, laundry needs to be done and some much needed girl time! Not to long ago I was so motivated in every aspect, I was getting stuff DONE! Maybe its this summer heat that drains me. We are all human and have our days, this doesn’t mean that we can’t ever get it back.

Sleep

Getting adequate rest is necessary for keeping motivation, after all its hard to fully focus and give our all when we are exhausted. 8-10 hours a night is recommended. Some of us get that, some of us don’t. Sleep is vital for our body’s restoration. Motivation starts the minute you wake up so make those Z’s count!

Plan of action

Having goals, and admiration’s helps us have a clear vision of what we want to achieve. If we don’t have any kind of plan we will surly get off track somewhere much easier. Make a journal with all of your intentions for the day or even the week. Try to stick with them the best you can, even if you get off schedule you can get right back on much easier. Waking up with a planned out day will increasing your chances of success.

Vitamins/Supplements

Now I have yet to dive in on this topic, but a big part of feeling your best includes proper nutrition and supplementation. Vitamin B-12 has been a life saver for my energy levels. Before finding the right vitamins to take I literally felt like a zombie just passing thorough life, along with my Anxiety, energy and mood was just depleted! A good solid multivitamin is a great starting point for anyone looking to start a new regime.

Support

You are more likely to achieve you biggest goals with someone right beside you! Cheering you on the whole way or even putting in the work themselves. “Team work makes the dream work”. Find a group of like minded people and get networking. Stay in the loop with workout days and lunch meet ups. We all want to stay on the right path but sometimes just the extra boost helps so much. Surround yourself with people who have the same goals as yourself. Motivational podcasts are great to put on and just soak up all the good vibes.

We all posses the power of Motivation, daily focus keeps it running on high. Make your efforts worth it!
